FAQ

How do I enter bankruptcy?

You pay the court’s fee, complete the forms they give you, but beforehand you will have to try and get advice on the matter. You might also want to look into alternatives like IVAs and debt management.

How will banks deal with me if I am bankrupt?

You will be allowed to have a bank account but banks will treat you differently. They may have certain conditions you will have to meet and will probably impose a limit on your account. You will have to notify your bank of your bankruptcy, otherwise you won’t be able to get overdraft facilities.

When will my bankruptcy end?

After one year of bankruptcy you are automatically discharged, but if you neglect the rules of the Insolvency Act your discharge will be suspended. Contact us and we’ll be able to tell you more about bankruptcy.
